Biography
Janin Hemmann, born 1985, is a German photographer whose work unfolds in the quiet, suspended world beneath the water’s surface. Working closely with her models, she creates scenes that arise within a single shared breath, where vulnerability and strength reveal themselves in fluid, unguarded gestures. Her underwater series explore mental health, trauma, and the fragile dialogue between humans and nature. With “If the Oceans Die, We’ll Die,” she has created some of her most recognized work — an urgent visual meditation on our bond with the environment and the cost of losing it. Across all her projects, she transforms submerged moments into visceral metaphors, inviting viewers to sink, feel, and resurface changed.
