Biography

For over thirty five years Michelle Valberg has been telling stories with her camera. This eminent, award-winning Canadian Geographic Photographer-in-Residence and Canadian Nikon Ambassador has traveled to all continents in search of adventure and photographic opportunity and is especially renowned for her love of Canada and the Arctic.
Michelle is a sought after speaker, celebrated author, community leader and an advocate for animals, the environment and conservation. She is a member of the Order of Canada.
Known for her unique ability to create relatable images of incredible landscapes as well as people and other animals, Michelle seeks artistic expression in all of nature’s most intimate moments. She believes that the world around us mirrors what we see in ourselves… the beauty, simplicity, complications and responsibilities. Michelle believes that nature is a part of who we are and we are part of nature, which is why it’s so important for us to nurture and protect the environment and those living in it.
In 2011, Michelle’s photographs were the focus of a critically acclaimed, three-month solo exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Nature. Her images appear on magazine covers, in numerous exhibitions and embassies around the world. Her iconic image of a Nunavut drum dancer is featured on a coin from the Royal Canadian Mint and her bear images are on four Canada Post stamps. She has self-published four books and is a member of the Explorer's Club in New York City.
